Minister of Law of the Republic of Indonesia,
Supratman Andi Agtas
, proposed a special meeting between Japan and ASEAN, to discuss specific issues regarding royalties and artificial intelligence (AI).
This was conveyed at the First Minister of Law Meeting in Manila on Saturday (15/11) which was held by ASEAN and Japan.

“Indonesia is proposing a workshop discussing intellectual property related to royalties from music and media content by global artificial intelligence platforms,” said Andi in his official statement, Saturday (15/11).
Previously, RI had also proposed an “Indonesia Proposal” regarding royalties which would be discussed at the Standing Committee on Copyright and Related Rights (SCCR) session at the WIPO office, Geneva, Switzerland in December 2025.
At the meeting, Minister of Law Supratman also touched on the importance of continued cooperation between ASEAN and Japan, especially to develop the legal framework in the civil and commercial fields.
Apart from that, Japan’s proposals submitted by the Minister of Justice Hiroshi Hiraguchi were also discussed, including program proposals under the ASEAN-Japan Work Plan in the Field of Law and Justice, criminal justice and intellectual property seminars.
On that occasion, ASEAN member countries also expressed aspirations that support the effective implementation of the Work Plan.
