Minister of Industry
Agus Gumiwang Kartasasmita
will propose new incentives for the automotive sector next year, including electric cars to the Coordinating Minister for Economic Affairs
Airlangga Hartarto
.
According to Agus, this new incentive proposal reflects Covid-19, where the fastest policy to help the automotive industry recover is by providing stimulus. However, he has not detailed the new incentives.
“The Ministry of Industry is in the process of formulating a stimulus incentive policy for the automotive sector which will later be submitted to the coordinating minister for the economy (Airlangga),” said Agus in a discussion with the media at his office, Thursday (13/11).

Agus said the automotive industry is very important for the domestic economy and cannot be ignored. The reason is, apart from absorbing workers, this industry also creates new jobs.
“We hope they will get attention because they protect workers and create new jobs. So there must be special attention, at least a fiscal policy for 2026 so that the automotive sector can rebound much more quickly,” he explained.
The performance of the automotive industry is still sluggish and has not fully recovered since the Covid-19 pandemic.Based on Gaikindo data, car sales
wholesalers
(from factory to dealer) in the January-September 2025 period there were only 561,825 units recorded.
This realization shows a decrease of 11.3 percent compared to the same period in 2024 which was recorded at 633,660 units. This is what prompted Agus to want to pay special attention to this industry.
“So the automotive sector is too important to be ignored, so it must be given special attention,” he stressed.
Apart from that, Agus emphasized that he would again propose incentives for electric motorbikes next year.It is hoped that it can be approved by the Coordinating Ministry for the Economy.
“I have conveyed the electric motorbike many times, we have been proposing it since January 2025, and in 2025 it will be finished (it has not been given). For 2026 it will be proposed again, but once again, the ball is not in our court,” he concluded.
