He said that the rice is now managed by Muhammadiyah and later they will also distribute the aid to disaster locations.
“And this rice is now in the hands of Muhammadiyah. And later Muhammadiyah will distribute it to the community,” he said.
At the same time, Tito said that the assistance was not from the United Arab Emirates Government, but rather the UAE’s Red Crescent organization.
The former National Police Chief said that the government had communicated directly with the UAE Ambassador.
“What was given was that 30 tons of aid came not from the United Arab Emirates government but from the Red Crescent. So it’s a Red Crescent, a kind of PMI. The Red Crescent in the United Arab Emirates. So
non-government organizations
,” he said.
Medan Mayor Rico Waas received logistical assistance from the UAE Government for flood victims in Medan.Floods hit 19 sub-districts due to heavy rain that occurred on Tuesday 25 November.
The aid was handed over directly by the UAE Deputy Ambassador, Shaima Al Hebsi at the Medan City Disaster Assistance Post, PKK Building, Medan Petisah, Saturday 13 December.
However, the Medan City Government decided to return aid in the form of 30 tons of rice as well as 300 packages of basic necessities, baby equipment and prayer equipment.
Rico Waas said the decision was taken after his party coordinated with the National Disaster Management Agency (BNPB).
According to him, currently the central government is still distributing aid to deal with floods in the city of Medan, so it is deemed unnecessary to distribute aid from the UAE.
“Indeed, we think that the government is still providing assistance to us as well as the Medan City Government. And it has also coordinated with BNPB, which would be good for it to be handed back to the UAE,” said Rico to
