Tito assessed that if the two UN agencies wanted to provide assistance, the assistance most likely to be provided to the community was counseling services.
“The most likely thing (aid) if it is not implemented in a national disaster status is
counselling
, especially for children and women,” he said.
Tito said that this matter would also be discussed further, what form of counseling would be provided. He said this was something the government would consider later.
However, according to Tito, Aceh Governor Muzakir Manaf alias Mualem did not know about the letter requesting assistance.
“The letter was signed with a barcode, so it was an electronic signature and the Governor, Mr. Muzakir Manaf, stated in multimedia that he didn’t know that. So we checked the staff who delivered the letter, it seems like the Regional Secretary sent it because of an offer,” he said.
Meanwhile, Mualem explained that the letter was not to the UN but to NGOs that still have programs in Aceh.
“We don’t understand because we didn’t make it. It’s outside our authority, we don’t know (about the letter of assistance addressed to the UN),” said Mualem in the courtyard of the Aceh Governor’s Office, Tuesday (16/12).
Separately, Aceh Provincial Government Spokesperson Muhammad MTA explained the letter sent by the Aceh Government to UN institutions.According to him, the letter was not addressed to the UN Office in New York, America.
The letter was addressed to the three institutions that have representative offices in Indonesia, namely Unicef, UNDP and IOM.
“We are gathering support, especially since they (Unicef, UNDP and IOM) are strategic partners of the government and have previous experience in handling tsunamis,” said Muhammad MTA to journalists at the Aceh Governor’s Office, Tuesday (16/12).
