stated that he was ready to accept criticism and evaluation regarding forest management after the emergency response period for the flash flood and landslide disasters on the island of Sumatra was declared over.
Raja Juli said that currently the government’s main priority is evacuating victims, opening access, early recovery of affected areas and psychological recovery of survivors, especially children.
“Once again we will focus first on resolving the problems we are facing today. After the emergency response period is over, of course I am very open to any evaluation, criticism, investigation, but once again we will try to focus first on resolving what the people are experiencing together,” he said in a written statement, Sunday (30/11).

On this day, Raja Juli together with the Riau Regional Police Chief Inspector General Herry Heryawan and the Regional Secretary of Agam Regency Mhd Lutfi went directly to visit the disaster location in Agam Regency, West Sumatra.
During the visit, Raja Juli ensured that the process of evacuating victims and distributing aid was running optimally.He also monitored the evacuation process of two victims’ bodies that had just been discovered by the joint SAR team.
“Just now I, together with the West Sumatra, Riau and TNI Regional Police Chiefs, evacuated 2 bodies, two of the victims died. And I think these days this is still our main focus, carrying out emergency response,” he said.
Apart from that, Raja Juli also visited the refugee post.There, he spoke with a number of victims, including a mother who said she still lost her younger sibling and nephew.
Raja Juli also ensured that the condition of the residents was of special concern to the government to speed up handling and ensure that all victims were recorded and handled properly.
“We continue to coordinate with the TNI-Polri to complete this emergency response phase first. Thank God, a lot of aid has come in. Earlier there was Mr. Regional Secretary, several places were still isolated, we did more data, we directed heavy equipment to the isolated places,” he concluded.
Flash floods and landslides have occurred in dozens of districts and cities in three provinces on the island of Sumatra, namely North Sumatra, Aceh and West Sumatra in the last few days.
The National Disaster Management Agency (BNPB) recorded that the total number of victims who died as a result of flash floods and landslides in Aceh, North Sumatra and West Sumatra reached 303 people as of Saturday (29/11) afternoon.
Head of BNPB Suharyanto said that most of the fatalities came from North Sumatra (North Sumatra) with 166 fatalities.
“I will describe from North Sumatra, yesterday’s death toll was 116, now there are 166 people who have died. Then 143 people are still missing,” said Suharyanto.
