Minister of Agriculture (
Minister of Agriculture
) concurrently Head of the National Food Agency (Bapanas)
Andi Amran Sulaiman
said Indonesia would achieve
food self-sufficiency
at the end of the year.
Amran said this after attending a limited meeting with Indonesian President Prabowo Subianto at the Presidential Palace in Jakarta, Thursday (20/11) today.
“We report on food developments, specifically for rice. Our food is specifically for rice, God willing, God willing, December 31 at 12.00, if nothing goes wrong, in the next 30 days, 40 days, Indonesia will be self-sufficient in food,” said Amran at the Presidential Palace in Jakarta.

Amran said this achievement was much faster than the initial target set by Prabowo.
He said, initially, Prabowo targeted food self-sufficiency to be achieved within four years.
However, the target was changed to three years and then changed again to just one year.
Amran said that food self-sufficiency was a big idea promoted by Prabowo.
“Thanks to full support in terms of regulations, then financing, thank God we can achieve this in a short time,” he said.
Amran also hopes that this achievement can reduce Indonesia’s dependence on imports of basic commodities.
“We will stop imports of rice and hopefully we will reduce corn this year, next year hopefully there will be no more imports of corn. However, we will maintain rice, increase it if necessary, and hopefully in the future we can export it,” he said.
