He believes that this inequality means that forest-owning countries need to build joint strength at the global level.
“Today we are still driven by countries that do not have tropical forests who control tropical forest management, including in Indonesia,” said Hanif at the hitclubapk3 Indonesia Sustainability Summit at the Bank Mega Tower, South Jakarta, Wednesday (26/11).

Hanif explained that these conditions encouraged Indonesia to join the Tropical Forest Forever Facility coalition, which was initiated by Brazil together with other tropical forest countries.
The coalition targets fixed funding of US$125 billion or the equivalent of IDR 2,083 trillion (assuming an exchange rate of IDR 16,664 per US dollar) to strengthen independent tropical forest management.
“We are independent, together we are tropical countries capable of managing our own forests,” he said.
Apart from that, Indonesia is also active in the International Tropical Peatland Center which was previously declared together with other tropical countries.
Hanif said that the development of this cross-country discussion was also related to the Three River Basin concept, a term that describes three large tropical forest areas in the world, namely the Amazon, Congo and Borneo (Kalimantan), which have similar ecological characteristics.
