Flood
hit 19 sub-districts in
Medan City
due to heavy rain that occurred since Tuesday (25/11).The flood caused thousands of houses to be submerged and traffic flow impassable.
Medan Mayor Rico Waas said that of the 21 sub-districts, only two sub-districts were not affected by the flood, namely Medan Area and Medan Perjuangan.

“The Medan City Government is in a period of preparedness to face extreme weather, following the heavy rain that has continued for the last two days,” said Rico, Thursday (27/11).
Rico revealed that several flood spots showed quite severe conditions, including roads that were impassable and rivers that had overflowed so that residents began to evacuate themselves.
“Residents who were evacuated were temporarily placed in mosques, village heads’ offices and sub-district offices. Currently officers in the field are still collecting data on the number of victims and affected houses,” he said.

Rico instructed all sub-district heads to ensure that the evacuation of flood-affected residents was quick and safe, and to prepare public kitchens at each evacuation location.
“The Medan Nutrition Fulfillment Services Office (KPPG) also stated that it was ready to work together to prepare food for the refugees,” he explained.
Rico Waas emphasized the importance of synergy between the sub-district head and BPBD in the evacuation process and fulfilling the basic needs of residents in refugee camps, especially children and the elderly.
“The city government will declare an emergency status if the flood situation continues to worsen,” he said.
Bobby’s official residence was flooded
The official residence of North Sumatra Governor Bobby Nasution on Jalan Sudirman, Medan City, was flooded due to heavy rain, Thursday (27/11/2025).The height of the flood in the area even reached an adult’s knees.
A number of two-wheeled and four-wheeled vehicles that forced their way through Bobby Nasution’s official residence area broke down.Motorists were seen pushing their vehicles under the rain which had not yet subsided.
Sari, one of the motorbike riders, admitted that he did not expect the North Sumatra Governor’s official residence area to be flooded.
“This time the flooding was high. It’s not usually like this. My motorbike also broke down. It’s not just the governor’s official residence that is flooded, all points in Medan have been submerged like a river,” he said.
North Sumatra Regional Police Ditsamapta personnel have been deployed to carry out flood emergency response at several points in the Medan area.
A number of locations were reported to have experienced quite high flooding, namely Kampung Aur, Medan Maimun District, Brayan Village, West Medan District, as well as Padang Bulan Village and Sunggal District.
“A total of 58 personnel were deployed to provide assistance to the community,” said Head of Public Relations of the North Sumatra Regional Police, Police Commissioner Ferry Walintukan.
He said that the North Sumatra Regional Police had mobilized all the necessary resources to speed up the handling of the flood disaster in Medan.
“The North Sumatra Regional Police Ditsamapta immediately went down as soon as they received reports of flooding at several points. Evacuations are still being carried out until conditions are completely safe,” said Ferry.
