Malaysian badminton fans react after the Badminton Association of Malaysia (BAM) Doubles Coaching Director,
Rexy Mainaky
admitted that he was ready to resign from his position due to failing to achieve his target at the 2025 SEA Games.
This was conveyed by Malaysian badminton fans through uploads on account X. Even though they failed at the SEA Games, they defended Rexy, who was said to have succeeded in making progress while working with BAM.
“It’s not coach Rexy’s [fault]. Under his leadership we have seen so much improvement and achievement in the doubles,” wrote one account owner.

“He did everything he could, but this time it wasn’t his fate. We can’t lose this gem.”
Other X account owners also defended themselves.According to him, it is unfair to blame the failure at the 2025 SEA Games entirely on Rexy.
“We actually did quite well this year, didn’t we? BAC champion, WC, representative [Malaysia competes] almost every WT weekend… It seems unfair that the SEA Games alone are a reflection of their achievements this year.”
Previously, Rexy admitted that he was ready to take responsibility by resigning from the position of BAM Doubles Director after failing to meet the target at the 2025 SEA Games. This was because of the target of four gold medals, Malaysia only won one gold, two silver and six bronze.
Based on the national doubles performance, the target of four gold medals does seem realistic.”However, in reality, we failed to achieve this and only won one gold medal,” said Rexy.
“So therein lies the problem of responsibility that I mean.If there is a [request for resignation], I am ready [to resign].That’s all,” added Rexy.
