a magnitude of 7.0 rocked the sparsely populated mountainous region on the border of the US state of Alaska and the Canadian territory of Yukon on Saturday local time.
According to the US Geological Survey (USGS) report, the main shock occurred at 20.41 GMT and was followed by more than 30 aftershocks in the next three hours, with strengths ranging from M5.1 to M3.3.

, the epicenter of the earthquake was recorded to be about 248 kilometers west of Whitehorse, the capital of Yukon, and about 370 kilometers northwest of Juneau, the capital of Alaska.
In Yakutat, Alaska, the location closest to the epicenter.Police Chief Theo Capes said there were no reports of casualties or damage.”The shaking lasted quite a long time, around 15 to 20 seconds,” he said.
The US Tsunami Warning System ensures there is no tsunami threat from this event.
