In this case, Irhamni said the logs were thought to have come from land clearing activities carried out by PT TBS in the Tapanuli area, North Sumatra.
He said the company was suspected of not complying with Environmental Management Efforts and Environmental Monitoring Efforts (UKL-UPL) in land clearing.Irhamni said that the land clearing action was thought to have been carried out since a year ago.
“More or less, according to the information, a year ago. But we tried with evidence, documents, plans and so on, we tried to examine it again,” he said.
Furthermore, he said it was possible that investigators would also investigate other companies suspected of being involved in clearing land upstream of the Aek Garoga River.
“Regarding corporations, what we are still investigating is one corporation. Coincidentally, this upstream is 120 kilometers long. We are trying to make the most of finding out what corporations or what activities are along the upstream,” he said.
On the same occasion, Director D of the Deputy Attorney General for General Crimes, Sugeng Riyanta, said that his party had received an order to commence an investigation (SPDP) from Bareskrim.
“The Prosecutor’s Office, as the public prosecutor, has received an order notifying the start of an investigation from Ditiipidter investigators regarding alleged criminal acts in the environmental sector that occurred around South Tapanuli, Central Tapanuli, which were carried out by a corporation,” he explained.
“This then becomes the point that this act is not just a criminal act in the environmental sector, but the main thing is that it causes a disaster. It is reasonable to suspect that there is a causal factor there,” he added.
He said that the Prosecutor’s Office would also collect facts on the ground from Bareskrim investigators for later investigation. So that when the case file is complete it can be immediately followed up by the prosecutor.
“Investigators have collaborated with the public prosecutor from the start. The aim is one, we want to enforce this law correctly, with quality, and there should be no sectoral egos, let alone files going back and forth,” he explained.
