“Some of these layoffs will occur in stages from 2023 and will only be informed to the KSPN DPP in 2025. So the total number of layoffs reported by KSPN members as of October 2025 is 126,160 workers,” he said in a written statement, Tuesday (11/11).
He said that of the total of 126 thousand workers who were laid off, 99,666 or 79 percent came from the textile, garment and shoe sectors. The rest comes from other sectors such as retail, plantation/forestry, various toys, automotive, mining, hotels, furniture, motorbike tires and paper variants.
Layoffs, he continued, came from 59 textile and textile product (TPT) companies and 13 non-TPT companies.Of the 59 textile companies, 3 companies are fully export oriented.
“The rest are local, mixed with export and there are those that are fully local oriented. Meanwhile, motorbike tire and paper variant companies are fully local market,” he said.
Ristadi said that in terms of regional distribution, the most layoffs of KSPN members occurred in Central Java with 47,940 workers (38 percent). Then, followed by West Java with 39,109 workers (31 percent), Banten with 21,447 workers (17 percent), Southeast Sulawesi with 7,569 workers (6 percent), and 10,095 workers (8 percent) divided into Jakarta, West Nusa Tenggara and other areas.
He outlined there are six causes of layoffs.
First,
reduced orders so that management carries out efficiency or reduces workers.
Second,
Orders stop or there are no orders at all so management completely closes the factory.
”
Third
“The quality and quantity of production has decreased because production machine technology has not been updated, which means product costs cannot compete,” he said.
Fourth,
failed to pay debts and was declared bankrupt by the court.
Fifth
, a company that has its own trademark, its production products are not sold because they cannot compete with imported products in the domestic market.
Lastly,
relocation of export-oriented companies.
The Central Statistics Agency (BPS) previously detailed the 3 sectors that contributed the most to layoffs in Indonesia.
BPS Deputy for Balance Sheets and Statistical Analysis Moh Edy Mahmud said layoffs contributed to the unemployment figure as of August 2025, although he did not specify how many recent layoff cases there were in Indonesia.
“The source of unemployment in August 2025, those affected by layoffs and still unemployed are 0.77 percent,” said Edy in a press conference at the BPS office, Central Jakarta, Wednesday (5/11).
“So, of the total unemployment, 0.77 percent were those who were laid off a year ago. Most of the unemployed who were laid off came from the processing, mining and trade industries,” he explained.
However, Edy did not explain the data on layoff cases per sector. He only said that the number of unemployed people in Indonesia would reach 7.46 million people as of August 2025.
