) The National Police reminds bus owners to ensure that drivers and vehicles meet roadworthy standards before travelling.
This was conveyed by the National Police’s Head of Traffic Corps, Inspector General Agus Suryonugroho, following the fatal accident of the Cahaya Trans Bus on the Krapyak Toll Road, Semarang, which killed 16 people.
“This is a strong warning that speed factors, driver condition and vehicle readiness really determine road safety,” said Agus in a written statement, Tuesday (23/12).

Agus appealed to all people who will travel and related stakeholders to increase traffic vigilance and discipline, especially during the Christmas and New Year (Nataru) holidays.
He emphasized that traffic accidents are not caused by a single factor, but rather by a combination of human, vehicle, road conditions and environmental factors. Therefore, he said, prevention must be carried out comprehensively and collaboratively by all related parties.
He then reminded drivers, especially public transport and long-distance vehicles, to ensure their vehicles are in roadworthy condition before operating.
Agus asked that there be no more cases of forcing oneself to drive when tired and breaking the predetermined speed limit. He said that even the smallest violation could result in loss of life on the road.
“Don’t force yourself to drive when you are tired or sleepy. Adequate rest and compliance with speed limits are the main keys to safety,” he said.
On the other hand, he also asked toll road operators and related agencies to increase supervision and traffic engineering at accident-prone points. This includes adding warning signs, speed regulation, and optimizing the traffic monitoring system.
“We invite the entire community to become pioneers in traffic safety. Compliance with the rules is not only to avoid sanctions, but to protect the lives of oneself and others,” he concluded.
