The eight companies that were summoned to provide information to the Deputy for Law Enforcement (Gakkum) of the KLH/Environmental Control Agency (BPLH) included PT AR which operates in the mining sector.
Then there are PT TPL, PT TN/PT SNP and PT MST which operate in the forestry sector, including forest concession permit holders, PTPN III which operates in the plantation sector, as well as PT NSHE, PT PJMHP and PT SGI which are managers of new renewable energy projects.
Previously, Minister of Environment Hanif had ordered the temporary suspension of operations of four companies in the Batang Toru watershed, including palm oil companies, mining companies, power plants and industrial forest plantations (HTI).The temporary suspension was carried out to carry out an environmental audit.
“Today, all of them are being evaluated. Then we have stopped operations on four of them. Because they are suspected to have contributed quite a lot to the flooding in Batang Toru,” said Environment Minister Hanif Faisol Nurofiq.
Previously, Deputy for Environmental Law Enforcement at the Ministry of Environment and Forestry, Rizal Irawan, in an official statement explained that the results of aerial monitoring showed that there was massive land clearing which was increasing pressure on the watershed.
“From the helicopter overview, it is clear that land clearing activities for hydropower plants, industrial forest plantations, mining and oil palm plantations are visible. This pressure triggers large amounts of wood material falling and erosion. We will continue to expand supervision to Batang Toru, Garoga and other watersheds in North Sumatra,” said Rizal Irawan.
