Rudianto Lallo reminded the police to be careful and not become a tool for businessmen when it comes to investigating environmental and human rights activists.
He conveyed this in response to the legal process carried out against environmental and human rights activists, including that experienced by the leader of the Sedulur Sikep Kendeng Indigenous Community, Gunretno.
Last week, on Thursday (4/12), Gunretno was reportedly questioned by the Central Java Regional Police regarding allegations of obstructing mining activities.

“I think the police have to be careful when looking at this case. Don’t give the impression that the police are being used by businessmen but then criminalizing them in the name of the law,” said Lallo when contacted, Sunday (7/12).
Lallo believes that the police do not need to see residents’ rejection of mining activities in their area as a threat. Moreover, currently mining activities in several areas are in the spotlight because they are considered to be the cause of environmental damage.
“So in my opinion you have to be careful in every legal step,” he said.
Lallo also suggested that the police should mediate in this case.He reminded the police not to give the impression that they are siding with businessmen.
According to the NasDem Party politician, the police must resolve the case through restorative justice. He said that people’s aspirations were carried out to fight for their rights. So protests will not be carried out if these aspirations are fulfilled.
“So, in my opinion, the police should be a bridge so that this miscommunication can reach a resolution,” he said.
Acting Dirreskrimsus Polda Jateng, AKBP Feria Kurniawan, explained that the case was based on the complainant’s complaint and was still under investigation.
Gunretno’s summons letter circulated on social media. The news of the summons was also conveyed by a member of the DPR from the PDIP faction, Rieke Diah Pitaloka.
Rieke then highlighted the status of the Kendeng karst which is currently critical due to lime mining.Karst mining, he said, is strongly suspected of causing flooding, damage to unique ecosystems and loss of people’s livelihoods.
According to him, currently there are at least 17 mining activities operating in the Kendeng Karst Area. However, according to data from the Ministry of Energy and Mineral Resources, only 3 mines are registered in Momi’s data.
