Minister of Energy and Mineral Resources (ESDM) Bahlil Lahadalia kept his promise to help communities affected by the hydrometeorological disaster on Sumatra Island by sending tents and restoring energy infrastructure.
Since the field visit in early December, various humanitarian assistance as well as steps to restore energy supplies and infrastructure have been carried out in stages in Aceh, North Sumatra and West Sumatra.
Most recently in North Sumatra, the commitment to aid the residents of Garoga Village, Batang Toru District, South Tapanuli Regency has also begun to be realized. As of Saturday (13/12), 100 tents had arrived and were handed over to the local government for immediate distribution.

Meanwhile, 156 other tents are still on their way from Minangkabau Airport to Batang Toru.Delivery delays were caused by air cargo queues and difficult distribution terrain.
“For North Sumatra, the Ministry of Energy and Mineral Resources sent assistance in the form of 10 generators, 77 air mattresses, 5 Starlink units, 10 jet cleaners, 9 chainsaws, 3 boxes of emergency lights, and 256 sets of tents,” explained the Head of the ESDM Disaster Preparedness Team, Rudy Sufahriadi, in Jakarta, Saturday (13/12).
Operationally, the restoration of energy infrastructure in North Sumatra is almost completely complete. All 406 gas stations, 383 LPG agents and 46 SPBE have resumed operations, while electricity supply has reached almost all customers.
In line with efforts to restore the community’s economy, the government is also following up on the People’s Business Credit (KUR) debt write-off policy for debtors affected by disasters in Aceh and North Sumatra.
This policy was conveyed by Indonesian President Prabowo Subianto during his visit to Aceh on Sunday (7/12), with the main targets being farmers, fishermen and micro business actors who were directly affected.
Meanwhile in Aceh, the Minister of Energy and Mineral Resources immediately asked the ESDM Disaster Preparedness Team to establish and operate a public kitchen post in Bireuen Regency starting Wednesday (3/12).This post plays an important role in meeting the food needs of thousands of refugees and residents affected by disasters.
As basic needs are met, the restoration of electricity supply in Aceh continues to accelerate. The progress of restoring the Brandan-Langsa transmission has reached around 85 percent and is targeted to be reconnected to the North Sumatra electricity system on December 17.
“Restoring electricity in Aceh is the main concern of the Ministry of Energy and Mineral Resources. Various efforts are being made to restore the electricity supply as it should be. Connection of transmission to the North Sumatra system is being carried out, coupled with the installation of PLTD to support electricity supply,” said Rudy.
To strengthen Banda Aceh’s electricity system, ESDM also installed a Diesel Power Plant (PLTD) with a total capacity of 50 MW.On Saturday (13/12), an additional 5 MW engine at PLTD Leung Bata has successfully entered Aceh’s 20 kV system, while the remaining 5 MW is scheduled to operate on December 14.
PLTD Krueng Raya with a capacity of 15 MW is targeted to operate on December 23.Meanwhile, the Ulee Kareng PLTD with a capacity of 25 MW is still in the stage of land acquisition and machine delivery, with a commissioning target of January 30 2026.
On the other hand, the supply of fuel and LPG remains a priority, especially for areas that are still isolated.Distribution is carried out through a multimodal strategy, utilizing land, sea and air routes. In Aceh, the stock of petrol is recorded as safe for up to 30 hours and diesel for 33 hours.
A total of 141 out of 156 gas stations have resumed operations, while active LPG agents reach 118 out of 133 agents.Points that are not yet operational are generally in areas with severe flooding or impassable access.
“Even though there are safety issues regarding transporting LPG via plane, we are not giving up. We are now supporting the supply of LPG for the northern region of Aceh using ships from the Arun LPG Terminal as well as sending cylinders via the west coast land route,” said Rudy last Friday (12/12).
Meanwhile in West Sumatra, promises of assistance have also been fulfilled. One generator unit was sent to the Suhada Mosque in Nagari Salareh Aia, Palembayan District, Agam Regency, so that residents could again carry out Friday prayers comfortably on Friday (5/12).In total, 35 generators were distributed to residents of Palembayan District.
PLN is helping to speed up the restoration of the electricity network by installing low voltage electricity poles, even at night, to restore normal electricity supply. For the energy sector, all 147 gas stations, 172 LPG agents and 14 SPBE in West Sumatra have returned to normal functioning.
