Jonathan Christie
expressed his desire to build a men’s singles badminton academy after retiring in the future.
This idea had been in Jonathan’s mind for a long time.He was inspired by the academy model owned by badminton player Marcus Fernaldi Gideon which is considered to have a complete coaching system and facilities.
“Yes, that’s one of my goals. I mean it’s a dream, I want to have an academy, like the good Gideon. That means the athletes have dormitories, the athletes really have coaches who are special coaches like that,” said Jonatan, quoted from Antara.

The academy that Jonathan dreams of will focus on the singles sector, in line with his background as a men’s singles player.
Jonathan also hopes that these facilities can be built around where he lives so that he can be directly involved in the coaching process.
“If possible, you can also find a location near your house, so you can come down directly. Because if it’s far away, sometimes it would be a shame if you don’t join in. Because some of them are already there, they just put their name, but they don’t come down directly. I mean, it’s a pity for the academy,” said Jonatan.
Jonathan added that the academy he is planning is also aimed at prospective athletes who have strong motivation but are constrained by costs.
He hopes to open access for more young players to receive quality coaching.
Regarding the timing of the realization, Jonathan said his wish was to establish the academy before retiring. However, he admitted that land availability was the main obstacle.
“I want to do it before I retire, it’s just difficult to find land. If there is a private sector that wants to work together, I won’t refuse. I mean, I also want to work together,” said Jonatan.
He added that the networks he built outside of competitive activities, including with a number of partners such as the private sector, could be an opportunity to realize his dreams.
“That’s why, what I said, when you’re outside (national training), collect lots of links so that later, after you’re no longer working in badminton, there are other things you can do. I wish I could,” said the 28-year-old athlete.
