“I have never inaugurated the IMIP airport in Morowali. Never,” said Jokowi, Friday (28/11).
Jokowi admitted that he had inaugurated Maleo Airport or also known as Morowali Airport. The government built the airport in 2007 and was inaugurated by Jokowi in December 2018.
“As far as I remember, what I inaugurated was Maleo Airport in Morowali. That is what built the Government,” he said.
PT IMIP’s special airport became a polemic in society after the Minister of Defense Sjarfie Sjamsoeddin. He questioned the absence of state apparatus, including immigration and customs officers at the airport.
Some parties then linked the PT IMIP special airport to President Jokowi. This privately owned airport is said to have been inaugurated by Vice President Gibran Rakabuming Raka’s father.
Jokowi himself responded casually to these accusations. He admitted that he was used to being cornered by various negative news circulating in society.
“Yes, he pulled all the bad things to me,” said Jokowi with a smile.
IMIP Airport received public attention after Defense Minister Sjafrie Sjamsoeddin brought up the existence of airports that do not have state apparatus.
Sjafrie made this statement after watching the 2025 Integrated Training held by the TNI and other personnel in Morowali, Central Sulawesi Thursday (20/11).
According to him, the existence of the airport makes Indonesia’s economic sovereignty vulnerable.
“This is an anomaly, an airport that doesn’t have state apparatus in the airport has gaps that make economic sovereignty vulnerable,” said Sjafrie.
The spotlight then focused on IMIP Airport which is managed by the private company PT IMIP.
Meanwhile Head of Media Relations PT IMIP Dedi Kurniawan said the airport was officially registered with the Ministry of Transportation (Kemenhub).
“IMIP Special Airport is registered with the Ministry of Transportation, whose management is regulated by Law No. 1/2009 concerning Aviation,” said Dedy in his statement, Wednesday (26/11).
