In an upload released Saturday (15/11) afternoon Indonesian time, Casas was mentioned as one of five candidates to coach the Garuda squad.
“Jesus Casas, former coach of the Iraqi national team, is one of five candidates proposed by the Indonesian Federation to become the new coach to lead the first team in the next phase,” wrote the post accompanied by a photo.
Shortly after Patrick Kluivert stepped down from the position of coach of the Indonesian National Team, Casas’ name was buzzing in the Indonesian media as one of the coaches who had the potential to become a coach for Jay Idzes and his friends.

This was based on Casas’ ability to bring Iraq to become one of the teams to be taken into account in the race for tickets to the 2026 World Cup.
Casas managed Iraq from 2022 to 2025. There was only one title that Iraq won under Casas’ direction, namely the 2023 Arabian Gulf Cup. Nevertheless, Casas had a big role in bringing the Mesopotamian Lions squad into the 2026 World Cup Qualification arena.
Before being fired on March 27 2025, following Iraq’s defeat to Palestine, Casas managed Aymen Hussein and friends from the second to third rounds in the 2026 World Cup Qualification phase in the Asian zone.
In the second round, Iraq won group F ahead of Indonesia, Vietnam and the Philippines.Meanwhile in the third round, Iraq finished in third place in Group B.
Casas laid the foundations for the Iraqi national team which is currently managed by Graham Arnold.
