, Israel Katz, plans to close the Army Radio radio station after being criticized for broadcasting negative news about the military.
In a statement, Katz said he wanted the closure to be done in an effort to maintain the military’s nonpartisan character.He admitted that he would immediately submit a proposal regarding this closure to the government, and hoped that the radio station could stop broadcasting on March 1, 2026.

Army Radio has responded to Katz’s statement.The head of the radio station, Tal Lev Ram, said he was surprised and called Katz’s move unprofessional.
“We see this as a real, regrettable and dramatic blow to the army, society and to press freedom in a democratic country,” Ram said in a statement, as quoted by Reuters.
“I will fight this tough decision as hard as I can,” he continued.
Army Radio is a government-funded radio station like the KAN radio station.Army Radio has a staff consisting of soldiers as well as civilians.
This radio station operates independently editorially.
According to Katz, Army Radio has broadcast many negative opinions regarding the Israeli military and soldiers.
Israel’s communications ministry has so far declined to comment.
