Chairman of the IMM DPP Riyan Beltra Delza assessed that the disasters currently occurring in the Aceh, West Sumatra and North Sumatra regions should be a momentum to improve environmental governance as a whole.
“This is a serious warning for us. It is time for us to improve and care more about the condition of the forests around us,” he told reporters, Friday (5/12).

Riyan emphasized that the restoration of affected forest areas cannot be borne by the government.He believes that all elements of society must also be involved in protecting nature.
“We all have to get involved, whether it’s planting, monitoring or reporting any deviations. Don’t let the Ministry of Forestry work alone. If we work together, the results will definitely be much better,” he explained.
Previously, Forestry Minister Raja Juli Antoni said that his party had obtained anatomical data on logs that were swept away by floods in Aceh and Sumatra.
He said that his party had also taken wood samples that had ended up in the sea.Raja Juli said the wood samples were then verified with the Automatic Wood Identification Tool (AIKO) to find out the identity of the wood, including its scientific name, specific gravity and class.
“There is a technology called AIKO to see what it is called, the anatomy of wood. Hopefully this can be an initial indication of where the origin of the wood is,” he said at a press conference, Thursday (4/12).
Apart from the anatomical data on the wood, Raja Juli admitted that he also had preliminary data from drone observations of the location where the wood was thought to have come from.
“We hope that cooperation with the National Police can as soon as possible reveal where the wood comes from and of course if there is a criminal element, we will enforce it together,” he said.
