, Central Sulawesi, apparently has international status since August 2025.
This is stated in the Decree of the Minister of Transportation Number KM 38 of 2025 concerning the Use of Airports that Can Serve Direct Flights from and/or to Abroad.
This regulation was signed by the Minister of Transportation, Dudy Purwagandhi, on August 8 2025.

In dictum
first
, there are three special airports that can serve direct flights to and/or abroad under certain circumstances and on a temporary basis.
Apart from IMIP Airport, two other special airports are Sultan Syarief Haroen Setia Negara Special Airport in Pelalawan Regency, Riau and Weda Bay Special Airport in Central Halmahera Regency, North Maluku.
According to the dictum

Direct international flight services are permitted for medical evacuation, disaster management, and/or transportation of passengers and cargo to support basic business activities.
Direct international flights served by special airports can only be carried out after fulfilling a number of conditions.
First,
safety, security and service requirements for serving direct flights to and/or abroad.
Second,
coordinate with the agency responsible for customs, immigration and quarantine, in order to provide personnel and facilities for customs, immigration and quarantine, for every direct flight from and/or to abroad.
“Determination of direct flights from and/or to foreign countries carried out at special airports is valid for one year from the date of determination,” he said.
If after one year you still need direct flights to and/or from abroad, the operator of the special airport must apply for a change in status from a special airport to a general airport to the minister of transportation.
IMIP Airport was in the spotlight after Defense Minister Sjafrie Sjamsoeddin’s statement said that airports that do not have state equipment are an anomaly.In this case, IMIP Airport does not have immigration or customs posts.
He said that his party would immediately evaluate the problem so that the gap in economic sovereignty could be resolved.
“This is an anomaly, an airport that doesn’t have state apparatus in the airport has gaps that make economic sovereignty vulnerable,” said Sjafrie after watching the 2025 Integrated Exercise held by the TNI and other apparatus in Morowali, Central Sulawesi last Thursday (20/11).
