He is threatened with no longer being able to teach, aka being laid off after December 31 2025. This is because based on National Civil Service Agency (BKN) regulations, there will no longer be honorary status or honorary teachers within the government in 2026.
“From our (PGRI) data there are 441 people. Of course it would be very regrettable if this happened. These honorary teachers have been teaching for a long time, from five to decades,” said the Chair of the PGRI Cilegon City, Bahrudin, Tuesday (25/11).
Meanwhile, Barudin highlighted that honorary teachers who have served for decades are only given a modest salary.

Not only that, he also mentioned that schools in Cilegon City are threatened with a shortage of teachers because honorary status will be removed by the central government.
“We ask that the government can review this policy. It would be a pity if they were really sent home. This is a serious concern for us. We encourage alternatives for them, because at school they are needed. We hope that this December there will be clarity,” he explained.
Responding to this, the Head of the Cilegon Education Service, Heni Anita Susila, claimed that her party was pushing to accelerate the appointment of honorary teachers to become state civil servants (ASN).
“The Cilegon City Government continues to strive to accelerate the appointment of honorary teachers to become ASN, so that they obtain economic stability and better protection,” he said.
