This edition of the World Cup has a new format with 48 participating teams.A total of 48 teams will be divided into 12 groups containing four countries from four different pots during the drawing.
There are differences in the drawing system this year.FIFA changed the World Cup draw format so that top teams, such as Spain, Argentina, France and England, do not meet early.The highest ranked teams are placed in a separate section of the tournament bracket.

With this change in format, the four highest seeded countries will not play against each other until the semifinals.This means that Spain, Argentina, France and England will be randomly assigned to opposite paths to the semifinals.This is the first time in history in a World Cup.
Apart from that, as in previous editions there is no more than one team from the same confederation in one group, except for European representatives who have 16 teams.
This means that a maximum of each group must have one or two European representatives.
Regarding the countries occupying pots two, three and four, FIFA uses predetermined allocations to determine the groups and their positions in those groups.
Confederation restrictions are also in place for inter-confederation playoff paths, ensuring that countries that qualify from this round will not breach the number limit per confederation in the group phase.
