The determination of November 10 as Heroes’ Day cannot be separated from the heroic events in Surabaya in 1945.
At that time, people and fighters from various regions united against the Allied troops who wanted to re-colonize Indonesia.
President Prabowo Subianto also recalled the history of the Battle of Surabaya on 10 November 1945 during the National Pilgrimage Ceremony and Sacred Reflection on Heroes’ Day at the Kalibata National Heroes’ Cemetery, Jakarta, Sunday (10/11) at midnight.
When he was about to lead a moment of silence, Prabowo mentioned that heroes died while defending Indonesia’s independence in the Battle of Surabaya.
“In 1945, November 10, the heroes bravely fought against enormous foreign powers, especially British power, the winner of World War II. With resistance and great sacrifice, they defended the independence and sovereignty of the Indonesian nation,” said Prabowo.
Meanwhile, on this Heroes’ Day commemoration, Prabowo will announce the names of 10 recipients of the title of national hero.
