Regency Regional Disaster Management Agency (BPBD).
Cilacap
stated that heavy rain with high intensity accompanied by wind on Saturday (8/11) afternoon triggered floods and landslides in a number of areas of Cilacap, Central Java.
BPBD stated that so far there have been no reports of fatalities due to floods and landslides in Cilacap.
Head of the Emergency and Logistics Division of BPBD Cilacap Regency Budi Setyawan said based on reports from a number of Regional Technical Implementation Units (UPTD) for Regional Disaster Emergency Management (PKBD), events due to extreme weather occurred almost simultaneously in four regions.

“The reports we received included flooding in Mandala Village, Cimanggu District, landslides in Bingkeng and Panulisan Barat Villages, Dayeuhluhur District, as well as landslides and waterlogging in Babakan Village, Karangpucung District,” said Budi in Cilacap, Sunday (9/11).
According to Budi, the entire incident was triggered by heavy rainfall from midday to evening which caused the water discharge to increase in several small rivers and the land cliffs to become unstable.
In Mandala Village, Cimanggu District, flooding occurred in Cibungur Hamlet RT 02 RW 05 and RW 06 due to the overflow of the Cikondang River after heavy rain from 13.30 WIB to 17.00 WIB.
The water had inundated residents’ yards and district roads to a height of 50-60 centimeters before receding at night.
Meanwhile in Bingkeng Village, Dayeuhluhur District, a cliff 10 meters high and 8 meters long collapsed and blocked access to the inter-provincial road between Central Java and West Java.
In fact, an electricity pole collapsed and hit the road, but there were no casualties.
“Residents together with Majenang PKBD UPTD officers, Koramil and village officials immediately carried out community service to clean up landslide material and coordinated with PLN to evacuate the collapsed poles,” said Budi.
He said that in the West Panulisan Village area, Dayeuhluhur, heavy rain for two days resulted in landslides in four hamlets, namely Cimanggeng 1, Cimanggeng 2, Pendeuy and Mulyasari.
Several residents’ houses were threatened with being buried, the school fence collapsed and around 30 houses were flooded with water up to 50 centimeters high in their yards.
Apart from that, landslides and flooding also occurred in Babakan Village, Karangpucung District, resulting in the main Babakan-Cinangka road being covered by landslide material.
One house belonging to a resident of Babakan Village named Wasino was damaged, and rice fields and fish ponds belonging to local residents were washed away due to the overflow of the Cinangka River.
“We have followed up on all incidents with field inspections, data collection and cross-sector coordination. Currently, most of the locations can be accessed again, although further community service work is still being carried out,” said Budi.
Regarding this incident, he appealed to the public to remain alert to the potential for hydrometeorological disasters considering that BMKG forecasts still show the potential for moderate to heavy intensity rain in the Cilacap area and its surroundings.
“We continue to remind people in vulnerable areas not to move around cliffs and riverbanks when heavy rain occurs,” he said.
Meanwhile in Banyumas Regency, heavy rain that occurred on Saturday (8/11) afternoon reportedly destroyed the Baitul Maqdis Mushalla building, Sudagaran Village RT 03 RW 03, Banyumas District.
Head of Hamlet 3, Sudagaran Village, Adi, suspects that the collapse of the 4×7 meter prayer room was caused by the condition of the foundation being eroded by the flow of the Kaligawe River behind the building.
Before the building collapsed, the cangkring tree next to the prayer room was first swept away by the very strong river current.
Although there were no fatalities, losses are estimated at around IDR 100 million.
