Head of Syuriyah Executive Board of Nahdlatul Ulama (

) KH Sarmidi Husna said KH Yahya Cholil Staquf or Gus Yahya could go to the tahkim council if he refused to dismiss himself as General Chair of PBNU.
According to him, this step can be taken if Gus Yahya objects to the decision contained in Circular Letter Number 4785/PB.02/A.II.10.01/99/11/2025 which was circulated on Wednesday (26/11).

“If there are objections to this decision, there is already a mechanism for channeling them, namely through the Tahkim Council mechanism at PBNU,” said Sarmidi during a press conference at the Sultan Hotel, Jakarta, Thursday (27/11).
Sarmidi stated that this was an internal conflict, so it could be resolved in accordance with NU association regulations.
“Internal problems that we have the authority to resolve internally. And we are Nahdlatul Ulama, a mass organization, and also obey the Law on Mass Organizations which states that if there is an internal conflict, it is resolved internally,” he said.
“So there is Perkum Number 14 of 2025 concerning Settlement of Internal Disputes for the Nahdlatul Ulama Executive Board,” he said.

It all started when a letter circulated from PBNU containing a statement that Yahya Cholil Staquf or Gus Yahya no longer had the status of General Chair.The letter was signed by Deputy Rais Aam Afifuddin Muhajir and Katib Ahmad Tajul Mafakhir.
Gus Yahya responded to this by emphasizing that currently he still has the status of Chairman of PBNU.He stated that the circular was invalid because it still had a watermark with the word draft.
“That letter (circular) is an invalid letter, because as can be seen, there is still a watermark with draft writing, so that means it is invalid,” he said.
“And if you scan the signature there, a statement will appear that the signature is invalid,” said Yahya at the PBNU Office, Jakarta, Wednesday (26/11).
Gus Yahya explained that the circulating letter also did not comply with administrative standards at PBNU because it was not signed by four people in Syuriyah (supreme leadership) and Tanfidziyah (implementing body).
“So the letter does not meet the requirements, in other words it is not valid, and cannot possibly be used as an official document,” he said.
