responding to accusations that he was affiliated with an international Zionist network.
Gus Yahya’s alleged affiliation with the Zionists is one of the grounds for Gus Yahya’s dismissal from the position of General Chair of PBNU, as stated in the PBNU Syuriyah Daily Meeting Minutes document dated 20 November 2025 which was signed by Rais Aam PBNU KH Miftachul Akhyar.
Yahya said he had indeed visited Israel to attend a forum in Jerusalem in 2018.At that time he also met Israeli President Benjamin Netanyahu.

“In 2018, I went to Israel. I met Netanyahu, I met the President of Israel, I met various elements there in various forums,” said Yahya after the Coordination Meeting of PWNU Chairs throughout Indonesia at the Navator Hotel Surabaya, East Java, early Sunday (23/11).
Yahya said his trip to Israel had never been a problem within NU.The proof is that the majority of NU administrators elected him as General Chair at the 34th NU Congress in Bandar Lampung 2021.
“But in 2021, the congress, the Branch Chairs (PCNU) and PWNU chose me. They already knew I had been to Israel, had met Netanyahu, they chose me,” he said.
According to Yahya, the PBNU management still chose him because they already understood his mission to Israel, namely to defend Palestine.
“Why? Because they know and you (you) can also see in various posts on the internet what I was doing in Israel and in Jerusalem at that time,” he said.
“That, I openly and firmly in various forums in Jerusalem at that time, even in front of Netanyahu in that meeting, that I came here for the sake of Palestine. I stated that on all occasions and I will never stop with this position, whatever happens,” Yahya added.

The issue of Gus Yahya’s impeachment was revealed through the PBNU Syuriyah Daily Meeting Minutes document dated November 20 2025. The minutes document itself was signed by Rais Aam PBNU KH Miftachul Akhyar.However, the validity of the document has not been confirmed.
In the document, one of the reasons for Gus Yahya’s dismissal was the polemic about the arrival of pro-Zionist Israeli academic, Peter Berkowitz, as a speaker at the Nahdlatul Ulama National Leadership Academy (AKN NU) in Jakarta, Friday, August 15 2025.
In the minutes document, PBNU’s Syuriyah ranks consider that inviting sources associated with the International Zionism network in AKN NU as sources for NU’s highest level cadre formation, has violated the values and teachings of Ahlussunnah wal Jamaah An Nahdliyah and is contrary to the Muqaddimah of the NU Basic Qanun.
“The meeting considers that the implementation of the Nahdlatul Ulama National Leadership Academy (AKN NU) with resource persons associated with the International Zionism network in the midst of genocide practices and international criticism of Israel has fulfilled the provisions of Article 8 letter a of the Nahdlatul Ulama Association Regulation Number 13 of 2025 concerning Dismissal of Functionaries, Temporary Changes and Delegation of Position Functions, which regulates that the dismissal is not carried out honorably against functionaries because the person concerned has committed an action that defames their good name.association,” the document reads.
