to meet the global. This plan is considered a concrete action on the energy and transport transition.
Deputy Minister of Investment and Downstreaming/Deputy Head of BKPM Todotua Pasaribu said that Toyota’s plan needs to receive appreciation and support.
“In the next few weeks at COP 30 Brazil, the world will discuss real action on climate change which includes a focus on the energy transition and transportation. Toyota’s investment plan in Indonesia for the development of the Bioethanol industry is strongly supported by the Indonesian Government because it is part of one of these concrete steps,” said Todotua in a written statement quoted Monday (10/11).

This is a research association formed by several Japanese automotive and energy companies with Toyota as the largest contributor, to research fuel technology including bioethanol.
The meeting discussed Toyota’s investment plans in developing the bioethanol ecosystem in Indonesia, which was considered to be in line with President Prabowo Subianto’s aspirations to encourage energy self-sufficiency, a green economy and downstreaming to increase the added value of natural resources in the country.
He also said that as part of a strategy to reduce fuel imports which are still high, Indonesia has established a policy of mandatory blending of bioethanol in gasoline at 10 percent (E10) and will be implemented in 2027.
“We see great potential for collaboration with Toyota to make Indonesia a base for bioethanol production in the region. Currently domestic fuel demand reaches more than 40 million kiloliters per year, with E10 obligations, Indonesia needs at least around 4 million kiloliters of bioethanol in 2027. In order not to lose momentum, preparations for building supporting plants must start now,” said Todotua.
Some countries such as Brazil are even reviewing the E100 policy, which means 100 percent of the fuel comes from bioethanol.Similar policies have also been taken by several countries such as the United States, China, India, France, Thailand and the Philippines which have implemented the E10 – E20 policy.
Toyota itself claims to have succeeded in having efficient and environmentally friendly vehicle engine technology using E20 fuel.In fact, from the research developed, this green fuel has been tested in Super Formula racing cars.
“Engines with E20 fuel and Hybrid EVs are suitable technologies for use in the mobility industry today,” said Maeda.
Based on the Strategic Investment Downstream Roadmap owned by the Ministry of Investment and Downstreaming/BKPM, a number of regions such as Lampung have been prepared to become centers for the development of the bioethanol industry, with the support of raw materials from sugar cane, cassava and sorghum.
Investment in this sector is projected to not only strengthen the clean energy supply chain, but also open up new jobs and encourage the welfare of local farmers in the region.
