Surya explained that the transfer was part of law enforcement and humanitarian cooperation based on an official request from the Dutch Government and approval from authorities in Indonesia.
He also emphasized that the Indonesian Government ensures that the transfer takes place in compliance with legal provisions, human rights principles, as well as security and health standards.
According to him, Siegfried has stabilized after receiving medical treatment, while Ali is in good health to be transferred.
“The Indonesian government remains committed to strengthening international collaboration in the field of correctional and humanitarian services,” he said.
Meanwhile, Deputy Dutch Ambassador to Indonesia Adriaan Palm expressed his gratitude to the Indonesian Government for its facilitation and support in this transfer process.
He emphasized that this step reflects good relations between the two countries and is based on humanitarian principles.
The handover procession was carried out at the Class I Cipinang Penitentiary, Jakarta, attended by representatives of officials from both countries, marking the continuation of close collaboration on correctional and humanitarian issues.
The two inmates, namely Siegfried (74) and Ali (65), are respectively convicts in a psychotropics case with a death sentence and convicts in a narcotics case with a life sentence.
Both of them had served criminal time in Indonesia before being returned to the Netherlands based on official inter-country procedures.
Siegfried underwent medical treatment at the National Police Hospital due to a fracture after falling, while Ali was stated to be in good health despite having a history of hypertension which had been treated.
After being declared fit to be transferred, the two of them were scheduled to fly to Amsterdam, the Netherlands, using KLM airlines via Soekarno-Hatta International Airport, with all transfer costs borne by the Royal Dutch Government.
The Indonesian government remains committed to upholding international cooperation, including on correctional issues, law enforcement and humanitarian services.
