“Schools are where you learn, where you interact,” Macron said.He also highlighted the rise in mental health problems and loneliness among young people.
Macron said that a ban on the use of cellphones in schools like this had already been implemented at junior high school (SMP) level. Therefore, he is optimistic that this ban can also apply to high schools.
“We have removed mobile phones from junior high schools. We will expand it to high schools next school year,” he told readers of Ebra newspaper in the Vosges commune of Mirecourt, as quoted

In France, cell phone use has been banned in kindergarten through middle school under a 2018 law. However, this law is sometimes difficult to enforce.
The government has also implemented a “digital break” policy starting January 2025 where children under the age of 15 must leave their cellphones in lockers, bags or pockets during study sessions.
The goal is to ensure that children do not have excessive screen exposure so that it has a negative impact on their health.
Exposure to digital devices is known to have an effect on sleep patterns, lifestyle, and the risk of being overweight as well as worsening eye vision function.
