“Flooding occurred in Tonggolibibi and Rerang Villages. If landslides occurred in Sabang Village, then tidal flooding occurred in Tovea Sirenja Village,” said Head of Central Sulawesi BPBD, Akris Fattah Yunus in a release, Thursday (11/12).
Floods in Tonggolobibi Village and Rerang Village submerged residential areas up to one meter high.

“Heavy rain caused the water discharge to increase and overflow, then the dam embankment broke. Then the water entered residential areas and residents’ rice fields with water levels reaching 100 centimeters,” he said.
As a result of the flood, a number of public road facilities, rice fields and school buildings were reportedly damaged.
“Facilities damaged in the two villages include embankments, drainage channels, a suspension bridge, SDN 10 Sojol, and 1,350 hectares of rice fields,” he explained.
Then in Lende Tovea Sirenja Village which was hit by tidal floods causing government facilities and schools to be submerged in water.
“In Lende Tovea Sirenja Village, tidal floods submerged the village office and SDN 3 Sirenja,” he said.
Meanwhile in Sabang Village, Dampelas District, landslides eroded the river side and impacted residents’ houses.
“The landslide occurred due to erosion on the riverbank which endangered residents’ houses,” he said.
“The landslide affected 10 residents’ houses and one taklim assembly building,” he said.
Akris said that the landslide was triggered by erosion in the riverside area due to high water discharge.
BPBD expressed the urgent need for river normalization, embankment repairs, bridge repairs as well as seed and fertilizer assistance for farmers affected by the disaster.
