Andi said that his party was still placing personnel in the field following information from BMKG regarding the potential for heavy rain.
“Now it is conducive, but we remain alert. BMKG information still has the potential for heavy rain,” explained Andi.
Previously, Andi said that flooding had occurred in several RWs spread across three sub-districts of Cirebon City.
The affected areas include RW 06 Penyuken and RW 07 Pelandakan in Harjamukti Village, RW 03 Kalijaga Village, and RW 09 Kesambi Village.
The city center was flooded, roads were paralyzed
Apart from that, the flood this time also hit Sumber District, which is known as the city center and regional government center from noon to evening.
The overflow of water caused puddles of around 80 centimeters at a number of strategic points. The Cirebon-Majalengka Province road was completely paralyzed because vehicles could not pass through it.
Police officers diverted traffic flow to reduce the density of vehicles that were snaking for quite a long time.
The flood was triggered by the overflow of a number of rivers crossing the Sumber District and Talun District. The water level increased drastically after heavy rain poured down the area for several hours without a break.
Not only did the flood submerge residential areas, the flood also had a serious impact on the business sector.
A warehouse storing goods belonging to a department store in Sumber District was reportedly swept away by the strong flood currents.
One resident, Yudi Aji (34), said the flood came suddenly when heavy rain fell on the Cirebon area.
“The water came suddenly and the current was very strong. The goods in the department store warehouse were immediately swept away,” said Yudi.
He said that flooding due to the overflowing river was the first time this had occurred at the warehouse location.
“So far it has never been this bad. The flood water came from the river near the warehouse,” he explained.
