The Head of the North Sumatra Bulog Region, Budi Cahyanto confirmed the incident.
The floods and landslides that occurred have caused casualties and many people lost their relatives and homes.Apart from that, infrastructure damage in the form of broken roads and landslides has cut off logistics distribution routes to the area.
“As a result, food supplies were not accessible to the public for approximately three days, triggering an emergency situation for food needs in the Sibolga and Tapteng areas,” he said.
Previously, looting also occurred in a number of modern retailers in Sibolga City.Looting continues at the Sarudik Bulog Warehouse.
Before the looting occurred, the Bulog Sibolga Branch Leader (Pinca) had coordinated with the Sibolga Police and Central Tapanuli District Military Command to ensure efforts to secure the Sarudik Bulog Warehouse facilities.
“At that time, personnel from the local Sector Police and Koramil were stationed in the Sarudik Warehouse complex area. However, the authorities’ focus at that time prioritized handling victims and post-disaster management,” he said.
As the situation develops and the potential for insecurity increases, Pinca Bulog Sibolga has requested additional personnel from the Sibolga District Military Command and Police.Apart from that, further coordination was carried out by the North Sumatra Bulog Regional Office with the North Sumatra Regional Military Command and Police so that personnel assistance could arrive more quickly.
“However, before additional personnel arrived, a crowd suddenly gathered in front of the Sarudik Sibolga Bulog Warehouse. The crowd forced their way in by tearing down the gate fence, breaking the warehouse padlock, and taking rice and cooking oil stored in the warehouse,” he explained.
The authorities have tried to dispel them but the crowd is uncontrolled due to the pressing need for food.North Sumatra’s Bulog is trying to coordinate with the regional government, TNI, Polri and all related parties so that aid distribution can be restored immediately and the situation can return to being conducive.
“We understand that the community is in an emergency situation due to the flood disaster which caused casualties, damaged infrastructure and cut off access to food,” said Budi.
According to him, currently the North Sumatra Bulog Regional Office and Sibolga Bulog are still in the process of collecting data on the amount of rice and cooking oil taken by the masses from the warehouse.Communication with the field team also experienced problems due to signal interference in the affected areas.
“The calculation of the amount of rice and cooking oil taken from the Sarudik Warehouse is still in the data collection process. We ask for support from all parties so that post-incident handling can run well and be on target for the benefit of the affected communities,” concluded Budi.
Not only the Sarudik Sibolga Bulog Warehouse, looting also occurred in Central Tapanuli.People who were victims of landslides in Tapteng looted a number of minimarkets. The looting occurred because aid logistics had not been received by the people who were victims of the disaster in Central Tapanuli.
