urged the Regional Police Chiefs from Aceh, North Sumatra and West Sumatra to thoroughly investigate forest destruction which he said had triggered disasters in the three provinces.
“The flash floods in West Sumatra, North Sumatra and Aceh occurred as a result of forest logging. Human hands caused this disaster. Regional police chiefs in the three areas must investigate the destruction of wild forests in West Sumatra,” said Dony in an official statement, Saturday (29/10).
Floods and landslides have hit Aceh, North Sumatra and West Sumatra in the last few days.The disaster caused casualties, up to 303 people died as of Saturday afternoon.

From many videos circulating, flood waters carried pieces of wood during this disaster.Dony believes the incident occurred due to massive illegal logging in the upstream area of the river.Dony also urged the police to thoroughly investigate the forest destruction that triggered the disaster.
According to him, floods do not occur completely naturally.He assessed that 99 percent of illegal logging triggers forest destruction and worsens water flows.
Apart from that, Dony emphasized the importance of accelerating handling to reduce the risk of further disasters.Danantara’s COO warned that extreme weather still has the potential to trigger new landslides.All parties are asked to remain alert and follow the instructions of official authorities.According to him, public safety must be the main priority.
“I hope that the Regional Police Chief will immediately follow up on this request. Fast and directed work is considered to determine the success of Sumatra’s recovery. In this way, all parties can move in one command and focus on saving residents,” said Dony.
Dony also asked all state-owned companies to help flood victims in Sumatra.Dony said that emergency response coordination must be fast and on target.
