Regency Regional Disaster Management Agency (BPBD).
Cirebon
, West Java, recorded that 24 villages and sub-districts in eight sub-districts were affected by the disaster
flood
which occurred on Tuesday (23/12) afternoon.
Head of the Cirebon Regency BPBD Emergency and Logistics Division Hadi Eko said the disaster was triggered by rainfall with high intensity and long duration, both in the Cirebon area and upstream areas in Kuningan Regency.
“Heavy rain caused a number of rivers and waterways to overflow, inundating residential areas,” said Eko in Cirebon, Wednesday (24/12).

Eko explained that rivers that overflowed included the Kali Soka River, Kedungpane River, Rajadana Weir, Cikuya Drain Channel, as well as a number of main canals in urban areas.
Apart from the rain factor, he said, the condition of the river’s shallowing due to sedimentation and a drainage system that is not yet optimal at several points also makes water stagnation worse.
Eko said the areas affected by the flood were spread across eight sub-districts, namely Sumber, Talun, Plumbon, Tengah Tani, Mundu, Weru, Kedawung and Gunungjati.
“In Sumber District, the flood submerged the Tukmudal, Sendang, Watubelah, Sumber and Gegunung sub-districts, including the Cirebon Regency Government (Pemkab) office area as well as a number of housing complexes,” he said.
He added that as of Tuesday (23/12) evening some areas in Sumber and Talun subdistricts had receded, but inundation was still occurring in a number of villages, especially in Plumbon and Tengah Tani subdistricts.
His party confirmed that there were no reports of casualties in this incident, but hundreds of residents’ houses were affected by flooding with varying water levels.
Apart from that, BPBD noted that there were 40 refugees concentrated in Dawuan Village, Tengah Tani District, with a total of 40 people from various age groups.
In handling the emergency, his party has deployed the Operations Control Center (Pusdalops) team to carry out assessments in affected locations and coordinate with the village government and related agencies.
“We evacuated residents and distributed logistical assistance to affected communities,” he said.
Cirebon Regency BPBD appealed to all stakeholders to jointly take steps to handle and prevent floods, including normalizing rivers from upstream to downstream in order to reduce the risk of similar disasters in the future.
