“During the flood disaster yesterday, there was a pregnant woman at the Tanjung Pura General Hospital, coincidentally the hospital was affected by the flood so they couldn’t provide services. And their ambulance was also prevented from operating. So from there we contacted the Stabat Lama Health Center to help evacuate the pregnant woman,” said the general practitioner at the Old Stabat Health Center, Afriza Amelia in an interview with the Ministry of Health, quoted on Sunday (21/12).
Stabat Lama Community Health Center officers immediately responded to the emergency call and came to Tanjung Pura Regional Hospital.Afriza was one of the doctors assigned.He and the community health center team took Rajula by ambulance to Putri Bidadari Hospital.
“Incidentally, Putri Bidadari Hospital was not affected, so they can still operate as usual,” said Afriza.
However, Afriza continued, the patient had experienced quite long contractions with strong intensity.Rajula could no longer hold it in, so she gave birth to the baby in the ambulance.Afriza, who was in the ambulance, helped Rajula give birth.
“It turned out that before arriving at Putri Bidadari Hospital, her mother had already given birth. Coincidentally, I was there. Her mother probably couldn’t stand it because she was having contractions on the road, so her mother finally gave birth in the ambulance,” he said.
Afriza said the two twin girls were born healthy and safe.They were named Hana and Hani.Hana was born weighing 2.3 kilograms, while Hani was born weighing 2.1 kilograms.
“The children are twins. The mother is healthy, the children are also healthy,” he said.
The flood and landslide disasters that hit a number of areas in North Sumatra have caused huge losses.The North Sumatra Provincial Government recorded that the total estimated losses due to the disaster reached IDR 18.37 trillion, including damage to infrastructure, the agricultural sector and residents’ housing.
“Massive damage touched the infrastructure, agriculture, plantations, livestock, fisheries and public housing sectors with total estimated losses reaching IDR 18.37 trillion,” said Deputy Governor of North Sumatra, Surya, Monday (22/12).
Surya said that the impact of the disaster was recorded as widespread in 14 districts and 5 cities.Six areas experienced the most serious damage, namely South Tapanuli Regency, Central Tapanuli, North Tapanuli, Mandailing Natal, Humbang Hasundutan, Langkat, and Sibolga City.
“In the infrastructure sector, the disaster caused damage to 25 provincial roads with 117 landslides and six bridges completely damaged. Losses to road infrastructure were estimated at IDR 880.65 billion,” he explained.
Surya explained that the emergency post had been established since November 27 2025, the day after the disaster occurred.According to the decision of the Governor of North Sumatra, the emergency response period is scheduled to end on December 24 2025.
