) began carrying out Weather Modification Operations (OMC) in a number of areas to minimize the impact of extreme weather and hydrometeorological disasters ahead of Christmas and New Year (Nataru).

Gatot said, OMC was carried out from 5-6 December 2025 by carrying out 3 sorties using seedling material of 2,000 calcium oxide (CaO) and 1,000 sodium chloride (NaCL).
“By looking at the data and information from BMKG until the end of the year, the Governor instructed us to implement OMC so that the potential threat of hydrometrological disasters can be avoided,” confirmed Gatot, Monday (8/12).
Gatot explained that the OMC was carried out in accordance with BMKG analysis for areas that have the potential to pose a threat of hydrometeorological disasters.
“Adjusting the analysis results from BMKG, so that if the cloud is felt to pose a potential threat in the East Java region, OMC will be carried out at that location,” he said.
Until the beginning of this week, the points where OMC had been held were the northern areas of Surabaya, northern Banyuwangi Regency and Situbondo.
OMC is carried out to reduce rainfall and minimize hydrometeorological disasters such as floods and landslides.
“[OMC has been carried out in] areas north of Surabaya and north of Banyuwangi, Situbondo,” he said.
