Medan
, North Sumatra, due to floods which cut off a number of main distribution routes.Residents complain about the difficulty of getting fuel at various public fuel filling stations (SPBU).
Long queues occurred at a number of gas stations such as Jalan Medan Johor, Jalan Tembung, Jalan HM Yamin, Jalan Letda Sujono, Jalan Merak Jingga, and Jalan Delitua.
The queue snaked all the way to the road.Residents were even forced to buy roadside retail gasoline at a sharp price increase, namely Rp. 50 thousand per liter.

Wulan, a resident of Medan Johor, admitted that she was forced to buy retail petrol because she couldn’t stand the long queues at gas stations.
“The queue was very long, reaching all the way to the road. I went to the gas station in Johor, but I couldn’t stand the queue. I was forced to buy a liter retail for Rp. 50 thousand. My motorbike had run out of oil, while I had to keep working,” said Wulan, Sunday (30/11).
A similar complaint was conveyed by Hasbi, another resident of Medan City who works as a courier every day.He has to get around the scarce supply by stocking fuel in mineral water bottles so he can continue working.
“It’s hard to find petrol. Every day I have to deliver goods to customers. If I don’t have enough in the bottle, I won’t work,” said Hasbi.
According to him, retail gasoline prices have increased unreasonably. He hopes that supply will soon return to normal because fuel is a crucial need in the midst of post-disaster recovery activities.
“Yesterday I bought retail pertalite for Rp. 15 thousand, earlier it was already Rp. 45 thousand per liter. The price just keeps going up. What’s strange is that this retail seller still has a lot of stock, while the gas stations are empty,” he said.
Meanwhile, Mulkan, another resident, experienced queues for hours to get fuel.”The motorbikes are already empty. People are angry, panicking. What I’m surprised about is that Pertamina is still providing purchases using jerry cans,” he complained.
Pertamina Medan Retail Sales Area Manager, Tito Rivanto, said that fuel distribution in Medan was hampered by road access which was still flooded. However, he ensured that fuel supply would run smoothly in the next two to three days.
“We are committed to maximum distribution to gas stations. Indeed, there are problems with road access, many of which are flooded. We hope that people don’t panic and just buy enough according to their needs because in the next two or three days the supply to gas stations will be smooth. So that a conducive situation can be realized in Medan,” he concluded.
