forest
in Indonesia is not a problem that has emerged in the last year or two.The Golkar politician said forest destruction was an accumulation of bad policies and practices that had been going on since the previous era.
Firman delivered at a DPR Commission IV working meeting with Forestry Minister Raja Juli Antoni which discussed flood and landslide disasters in several areas
He believes that King Juli Antoni cannot be blamed unilaterally for the condition of forest destruction which is now in the public spotlight.Firman reminded that ecological damage occurred long before the current minister assumed his duties.

“The Minister (Raja Juli Antoni) was washing dishes, that’s why I defended him. That’s why when (Muhaimin Iskandar) asked me to repent, I defended him. Because of this incident of forest destruction, it wasn’t one year or two years. After reform, our forests were destroyed,” he said at the DPR Building, Jakarta, Thursday (4/12).
He highlighted the vulnerable condition of a number of regions in Indonesia.Firman even admitted that he was afraid when crossing landslide-prone areas.
“I’m sad, sir, let alone in Sumatra, even those of us sitting in this room are sometimes afraid when passing through Puncak, afraid there will be landslides, wherever we want to pass, we are afraid the road will suddenly break like in Aceh,” he said.
He regretted that there were still wood transportation activities in the midst of the disaster.Firman asked the Ministry of Forestry to take firm action against the companies involved.
“In such a disaster situation, there are still those who transport wood, even though they still have permits. I ask the minister to take firm action. If necessary, revoke their permits because they have a sense of crisis, that is harassment of the state. Harassment of the people there,” he said.
