said to be ready to discuss the proposal
regional head elections (Pilkada) through the DPRD
in the revision of the Election Law which will begin in 2026.
“Commission II is ready to discuss this matter in drafting changes to the Election Law,” said Deputy Chairman of Commission II DPR, Zulfikar Arse Sadikin when contacted, Sunday (7/12).

Zul, his nickname, said that every proposal related to elections needed to be studied. This effort was made to find an election formula to make it better and more effective.
“We should appreciate any ideas related to the electoral system and need to be studied more deeply to find more appropriate choices to improve the quality of our elections,” he said.
Meanwhile, Deputy Chair of Commission II from the Democratic Party Fraction, Dede Yusuf, said that the priority election bill would be discussed in 2026 because the election stages would begin in 2027.
“Our Prolegnas next year is an election bill. Because the election stage has entered in 2027, it must begin,” he said.
Even so, the Regional Election Bill will potentially not be discussed in the near future. This is because the Constitutional Court (MK) decision number 135 has ordered that the regional elections be held separately from the national elections.
Therefore, said Dede, Commission II has not yet confirmed whether the Pilkada Bill will be included in the codification of the Election Bill which will be discussed in 2026.
“Not yet. But it could be included in the election package. We haven’t started yet,” he said.
President Prabowo Subianto previously admitted that he was considering the idea of Golkar General Chair Bahlil Lahadalia to have the regional elections carried out by the DPRD.
This proposal emerged in response to the high political costs in Indonesia due to implementing direct elections.Prabowo then highlighted that this kind of ‘representative democracy’ practice is also implemented in a number of countries.
“If you have already chosen the Regency DPRD, Provincial DPRD, why not just immediately elect the governor and regent? That’s it,” said Prabowo when delivering a speech at the peak event of the Golkar Party’s 61st anniversary at Istora Senayan, Friday (5/12).
