It is suspected that the clearing of the mangrove forest area in Anduonohu Village, Kendari City, was carried out for the construction of private houses.
“We regret that the issue of clearing mangrove forest areas is true in Kendari City, Southeast Sulawesi, especially if they are used for personal gain. Mangroves do not belong to anyone, they belong to the state and future generations,” said Rajiv quoting

According to him, Commission IV DPR RI will ask for an explanation from the Ministry of the Environment and the Ministry of Forestry regarding detailed reports on area status, permits, and whether there are activities that conflict with spatial planning and coastal conservation regulations.
“We at Commission IV DPR RI will ask for official clarification from the Ministry of the Environment and the Ministry of Forestry, regarding the area function map and the legality of its use,” he said.
He said, so far, a lot of manipulation has occurred at the technical level, starting from blurring area boundaries, issuing forestry permits that are not based on environmental studies, to secretly changing land functions.
“As soon as there are indications of changes in the function of space that cannot be explained scientifically, we have to intervene. Don’t let the public only be given administrative answers that don’t describe the real conditions on the ground,” he said.
Rajiv explained that mangroves are a coastal ecosystem that has a vital function as a disaster buffer, guardian of water quality, and an important habitat for biodiversity.
For this reason, he asked the government to pay serious attention to any indication of abuse of authority regarding its use.Apart from that, the government must also carry out a thorough and objective investigation regarding the issue of mangrove forest clearing.
“If it is true that there are mangrove areas that have been opened for the construction of private houses for officials, this is a violation of the public mandate. Commission IV will continue to oversee the government’s investigation into the issue of clearing mangrove forests,” he said.
Rajiv also urged law enforcement officials, both the police and prosecutors, as well as environmental monitoring agencies and local government internal supervision to immediately carry out checks in the field.
“An objective investigation process will actually protect the integrity of the regional government if it turns out that the allegations are not proven, there will be no impression of negligence. If officials are the ones who open up room for damage, how are we going to discipline the others?”he closed.
The local government has opened its voice
Previously, there was an uproar on social media, the Governor of Southeast Sulawesi (Sultra), Andi Sumangerukka, who allegedly cleared 3 hectares of mangrove forest to make way for the construction of his private house. The location of the mangrove forest that was cleared is said to be on Jalan Malaka, Kambu Village, Kambu District, Kendari City.
Secretary of the Environment and Forestry Service (DLHK) Kendari Arnal admitted that his party had intervened to check the location of the mangrove forest. However, his party cannot confirm whether or not the clearing was for the construction of Governor Andi Sumangerukka’s house.
“It’s true (the monitoring team) went down to check because it was in the Kendari area, but it turns out that all the licensing processes are in the province and central government,” said Arnal to

He also confirmed that the area was a mangrove plantation area. However, its authority lies at the provincial level.
“Because of that, the mangrove area is adjacent to the coast, which we do not have authority over. You can check it in Spatial Planning (PUPR Kendari),” he explained.
Separately, Staff for Planning and Forest Utilization at the Southeast Sulawesi Forestry Service (Dishut) Ardi denied that his party had issued a permit process in that area.He argued that his party was only granting a request to count the plants on the land.
“Regarding permits, perhaps what is meant is that the applicant submits an application to calculate the timber potential on the land, and the land is certified. Because according to the regulations, there is PNBP there,” he said.
He said the application was submitted in July 2025.Then, after data collection was carried out until September 2025, the calculation numbers came out.
“The area of the application is 5 hectares but the calculation is 3 hectares. So our authority is to calculate the standing of the mangroves there,” he said.
