So even though some of the production is exported, Sudaryono ensures that supplies for domestic consumption are maintained so that there are no worries about domestic availability.
“I don’t think our calculations (have an impact on national cooking oil production), because our production is large, yes. So what is exported is greater than what is consumed,” explained Sudaryono at the Ministry of Agriculture Office, South Jakarta, Wednesday (10/12).
“What I mean is, there is a DMO process, then the obligation is to meet the needs of the domestic market. I don’t think there’s any worry,” he added.
He added that the condition that needs to be worried is when goods are not available on the market. However, currently, according to him, the stock is still in a safe condition.
“We worry if we don’t have the goods. So we got a gift this year, our rice needs are self-sufficient,” he said.
Sudaryono explained that in the midst of a disaster situation, panic can actually arise when basic needs are difficult to obtain. However, this condition does not occur at this time because reserves are still available.
“Imagine during a disaster like this, then the goods aren’t there. Wouldn’t that make us even more panicked?”he said.
He ensured that stocks of basic necessities were still available in government warehouses.
“So so far, the stock is there, it’s in the Bulog warehouse, there was even a lot of people yesterday who said it was taken in quotation marks by deep confinement,” he said.
According to Sudaryono, the main problem in emergency conditions is not the availability of goods, but rather the collection and distribution process in the midst of a critical situation.
“There’s no problem, the goods are there. What’s difficult is wanting to take them, the goods aren’t there. Well, this was taken and the goods are there. And people are in crisis, that’s all. The important thing is that we serve all of us first,” he said.
The flash floods and landslides that hit a number of areas in North Sumatra had a major impact on the agricultural sector, especially rice fields.
The North Sumatra Provincial Government together with the Ministry of Agriculture recorded that the total agricultural land affected reached 38,878 hectares.Of this number, 5,570 hectares were reported to have experienced crop failure or puso. The estimated losses for farmers due to this disaster reached IDR 1.132 trillion.
Acting Regional Secretary of North Sumatra Province Sulaiman Harahap explained the conditions in Central Tapanuli Regency, where some rice fields turned into expanses of land after being hit by floods.
This condition means that the land requires a lot of time and money to be used again as a productive agricultural area.
On the other hand, the Sumatra region is known as one of the main centers for national oil palm plantations.Based on government data, Riau Province has an oil palm plantation area of around 3.37 million hectares, while North Sumatra has around 1.57 million hectares.
Meanwhile, in the provinces of Aceh and West Sumatra, the area of oil palm plantations reaches around 440 thousand hectares and 448 thousand hectares respectively.
