Deputy Minister of Agriculture (Wamentan)
Sudaryono
straighten out viral news on social media about aid
rice
for the victim
Sumatran floods
worth IDR 60 thousand per kilogram (kg).
He confirmed that the information was incorrect due to a writing error or typo.
“I want to explain, it was very popular on social media, he said,
According to the Ministry of Agriculture’s calculation, 1 kg of rice is IDR 60 thousand?
like that yeah.”Perhaps I should also tell you, it was a typo, but the calculation was not wrong,” said Sudaryono at the Ministry of Agriculture Office, South Jakarta, Wednesday (10/12).

He explained that the Rp. 60 thousand figure was not for 1 kg of rice, but for a package of rice weighing 5 kg.
“It’s not 1 kg 60 thousand, but one pack, one pack is 5 kg. It’s impossible for us to give aid for 1 kg, right? We would definitely give one pack of 5 kg. (For) 5 kg IDR 60 thousand, so 1 kg is IDR 12,500 (per kg), so that’s it. But the calculation is correct, the calculation is correct, it’s just that there was a writing error,” he explained.
Sudaryono also explained that in minimarkets, the smallest rice packaging size is generally 5 kg per bag.If people want to buy rice below that size, they usually have to buy it in bulk and then package it themselves, for example 1 kg, 1.5 kg or 2 kg.
Therefore, the aid distributed also refers to standard packaging of 5 kg per package at a price of IDR 60 thousand.
“But what is clear is that what this means is not per kg, but per pack, one pack is Rp. 60 thousand. If you buy at the minimarket, the minimum is 5 kg, per bag. If you want to buy under 5 kg, you have to buy bulk which is packaged yourself, want 1 liter, want 1 kg, want 1.5 kg, 2 kg. If the smallest is in a 5 kg pack,” he said.
Sudaryono also responded to public criticism regarding fundraising carried out to help disaster victims. He said the collection of funds was carried out on the basis of solidarity and was voluntary, not the result of coercion.
“So it’s not because it was then coordinated and everyone was forced, there is no coercion here,” he said.
According to him, funds of around IDR 75 billion which were distributed in stages to the three provinces affected by the disaster came from the voluntary participation of Ministry of Agriculture employees, with varying amounts.
“There is no coercion in fundraising, there is none. So it’s voluntary, some IDR 100 thousand, some IDR 1 million, it’s up to you,” he said.
Previously, the Ministry of Agriculture had responded to the growing public attention regarding data on aid for communities affected by the disaster in Sumatra which was circulating on social media.
This data sparked an interpretation that the price of aid rice reached IDR 60 thousand per kg.
Head of the Communications and Information Services Bureau of the Ministry of Agriculture, Moch Arief Cahyono, apologized for the erroneous data circulating.
“We would like to thank all the netizens who took part in monitoring, and we would like to convey that currently the government’s rice assistance has reached 1,200 tons worth IDR 16 billion,” said Arief, Monday (8/12).
He explained that the photo of initial data on aid distributed with a value of IDR 1.3 billion did not include complete volume units. The written volume figure of 21,874 is the number of rice packages, with each package containing 5 kg, not per kg.
The data has now been corrected to avoid misunderstandings.
Arief also ensured that the Ministry of Agriculture did not purchase the aid using the state budget.Assistance comes from partners and parties who want to contribute, then distributed to flood-affected areas.
According to him, the large value and volume of aid is a reminder of the importance of internal monitoring. Therefore, the role of the Inspectorate General is strengthened in the entire process of managing and distributing aid so that it can be accounted for and can be easily audited.
“We are open to criticism and correction. Every penny of donations will be accounted for and audited. The most important thing now is to ensure that aid actually reaches our brothers and sisters who need it in the field,” said Arief.
