“I am very disappointed with the appointment of this special envoy. And I am very disturbed by his statements, which we consider completely unacceptable,” Rasmussen told Danish national broadcaster TV 2, as quoted by the news agency

.
Rasmussen said he would summon the US Ambassador to Denmark in response to the Trump administration’s move.
Trump announced Landry’s appointment as special envoy to Greenland in a post on Truth Social on Monday.
“Jeff understands how important Greenland is to our national security, and will vigorously advance our country’s interests for the safety, security and survival of our allies, and even the world,” Trump wrote on his social media platforms.
Trump defended his decision to appoint Landry by telling reporters that America needed Greenland “for national security” and that Landry himself had volunteered for the job.
“Louisiana, the Louisiana purchase. He said, I’m the governor of Louisiana, and he said I’d love to… I didn’t call him, he called me. He was very proactive,” Trump told reporters at Mar-a-Lago.
“We need Greenland for national security, not for minerals. We have so many mineral sites and oil and everything,” Trump said.
He also confirmed plans to annex Greenland, even though the region has the status of an autonomous region under Denmark.
“If you look at Greenland, along its coastline there are Russian and Chinese ships everywhere. We need it for national security. We have to have it,” he added.
In his statement on Monday, Trump also claimed that Denmark had “not spent a dime” on Greenland and “provided no military protection”.
Trump has repeatedly stated his desire to annex Greenland, a large, resource-rich island in the Atlantic that is an autonomous region of Denmark. The reason is always the same, namely the security of the United States.
Both Greenland and Denmark, US NATO allies, have firmly opposed the idea.
Danish Prime Minister Mette Frederiksen and Greenlandic Prime Minister Jens-Frederik Nielsen on Monday reiterated their rejection of US plans to take over Greenland
“You cannot annex another country. Even under the pretext of international security,” said Frederiksen and Jens-Frederik.
“Greenland belongs to the Greenlanders and the United States will not take over Greenland,” they added in a joint statement.
