The number of deaths due to heavy flooding in
Vietnam
increased to 90 people and 12 others are still missing after days of heavy rain and landslides.
Reporting from AFP, Sunday (23/11), Vietnam’s Ministry of the Environment recorded more than 60 fatalities since November 16 in Dak Lak Province, central Vietnam, where tens of thousands of houses were flooded.
Relentless heavy rains have pounded Vietnam’s south-central region since late October , causing several popular tourist destinations to be hit by repeated flooding.

According to Channel News Asia, entire city blocks on the coast of NhaTrang were submerged in water this week, while deadly landslides occurred in mountain passes around the Da Lat tourist area.
The mountainous province of Dak Lak is the area most affected.
State media reported that rescue teams were still evacuating residents from rooftops and trees as the floodwaters began to recede on Friday.
Several main highways remained closed on Saturday and 300 thousand residents were without electricity, after more than one million people previously experienced blackouts.
According to data from Vietnam’s National Statistics Office, natural disasters have left 279 people dead or missing and caused losses of more than US$2 billion in the period January to October this year.
Vietnam is prone to heavy rain from June to September.However, scientists assess that human-caused climate change has made extreme weather more frequent and damaged the environment.
