More than 235,000 homes were flooded and nearly 80,000 hectares of crops were damaged, Vietnam’s disaster management agency said.
In addition, there are several photos in Vietnamese state media showing residents on the roofs of submerged houses and asking for help.
The photos show a number of areas in Khanh Hoa, Gia Lai and Dak Lak that were flooded.
According to the Vietnam News Agency, the navy went to the ground to help residents trapped in Khanh Hoa, and flood levels reached their highest level.
Vietnam is a coffee production center and has the country’s most popular beaches, but it is also prone to storms and flooding.
After the incident, traders said the flood had hampered the coffee harvesting process in the area.
This disaster also resulted in the suspension bridge on the Da Nhim River, Lam Dong province being hit by currents on Thursday morning according to VietnamNet media reports.
Video footage showed the bridge disappearing into the river in a matter of seconds, but Reuters has not confirmed the video’s authenticity.
