“I have some basic, elementary and conceptual ideas. Like, ‘Okay, it would be interesting if it looked like this,’ kind of like the seeds of an idea,” said Rian Johnson as reported

on Sunday (14/12).
“I don’t have a really concrete idea yet. I don’t have a theme, I don’t have a location. Everything is still very vague, and I think it’s good to keep it vague until I’m really ready to sit down and write it,” he explained.
This delay is not due to a lack of ideas, but rather because of Johnson’s philosophy towards this franchise.He doesn’t want his film to just be an ordinary mystery story, but rather has to be relevant to current social conditions.
“I love that these films aren’t completely timeless, and that each has one foot planted in something we’re all feeling together in the present moment,” Johnson said.
“Part of making these films, for me, is reacting to the current moment, not specifically to current events, politics, or culture, but rather to what we’re all feeling in the world at that moment,” he continued.
Therefore, Johnson needs time to observe and adapt to the new chapter in society until he truly finds the most appropriate and relevant problem or trend to serve as the background for the next mystery.
Wake Up Dead Man tells the story of Benoit Blanc (Daniel Craig) investigating the murder case of Jefferson Wicks (Josh Brolin), a leader at Our Lady of Perpetual Fortitude church, who was found stabbed to death in a cupboard on Good Friday.
One of the main suspects is Jud Duplenticy (Josh O’Connor), a former boxer turned priest’s assistant and alleged owner of a murder knife taken from a satanic headdress.
Wake Up Dead Man is a star-studded film, starring Daniel Craig, Josh O’Connor, Josh Brolin, Glenn Close, Kerry Washington, Mila Kunis, Jeremy Renner, Daryl McCormack, Andrew Scott, Cailee Spaeny, and Thomas Hayden Church.
