Defendant Ibrahim Arief alias Ibam’s legal advisory team emphasized that their client was not involved in the procurement of laptops

at the Ministry of Education and Culture in the Nadiem Makarim era.
Regarding the December 2019 meeting, Ibam’s legal team said it was not a matter of plans to procure Chromebooks from the Ministry of Education and Culture, but only a discussion regarding the design and development of national scale applications.
“It can be confirmed that at the meeting on December 16 2019, the defendant Ibrahim Arif alias Ibam knew absolutely nothing and was not informed about the plan to procure goods or Chromebooks from the Ministry of Education and Culture,” said Ibam’s attorney during a hearing at the Jakarta Corruption Court with the agenda of reading the defendant’s exception, Monday (22/12).

“The discussion that took place was only related to experience in application design and development as well as a quality national scale application team,” continued Ibam’s attorney.
Then after the meeting, the defendant met with Najelaa Shihab as Chair of the Trustees of the Center for Education and Policy Studies (PSPK) Foundation to discuss work as a consultant at the foundation.
“It can also be emphasized that the defendant Ibrahim Arif alias Ibam did not know Najelaa Shihab before and discussions regarding the contract as a consultant were carried out directly between the defendant and Najelaa Shihab in a professional manner based on consideration of the defendant’s expertise,” said the attorney.
“That in January 2020, the defendant Ibrahim Arif alias Ibam decided to accept a job offer as a consultant from the PSPK Foundation,” he continued.
The attorney emphasized that when discussing the work contract as a consultant, Ibam did not know anything about plans to procure Chromebooks.
“It can be emphasized that when discussing the work contract with the PSPK Foundation, the defendant knew absolutely nothing and was not informed about the plans to procure goods or Chromebooks,” he said.
In his statement, the attorney also informed that Ibam had never joined the WhatsApp group “Mas Minister Core Tim” or the “Education Council”.
“And the defendant Ibrahim Arif alias Ibam also never joined the WhatsApp group ‘Mas Minister Core Team’ or ‘Education Council’,” said the attorney.
Previously, during the indictment hearing, Ibam, as a technology consultant who worked with former Minister of Education, Culture, Research and Technology (Mendikbudristek) Nadiem Makarim, was said to have received a net salary of up to IDR 163 million.
Ibam is now one of four defendants in the alleged corruption case in the procurement of Chromebook laptops and Chrome Device Management (CDM) which is said to have cost the state up to IDR 2.1 trillion.
The other suspects are Sri Wahyuningsih as the former Director of Elementary Schools (SD), Mulyatsyah as the former Director of Junior High Schools (SMP), and Nadiem Makarim as Minister of Education, Minister of Education, Culture, Research and Technology.
