Iwasaki “openly colluded with ‘Taiwan independence’ separatist forces, seriously violating the One-China principle… and undermining China’s sovereignty and territorial integrity,” Beijing’s Foreign Ministry said in a statement, reported

.
According to Taiwanese media, Iwasaki was appointed as an advisor to the Taiwanese government last March, after previously serving as Chief of Staff of the Joint Self-Defense Forces of Japan from 2012 to 2014.
Beijing said it firmly opposed Iwasaki taking an advisory role.
Under the announced “countermeasures”, the 72-year-old is banned from entering China, including Hong Kong and Macau, and all his assets in the country will be frozen.
China’s Foreign Ministry also said people and organizations in China are prohibited from cooperating with it.
Meanwhile, the Japanese Foreign Ministry stated that “it is very unfortunate that the Chinese side took unilateral action that appeared to intimidate someone in a different position.”
The sanctions come amid a dispute between China and Japan over Japanese Prime Minister Sanae Takaichi’s proposal that Tokyo could intervene militarily if there is an attack on the self-sovereign democratic island.
China claims Taiwan as part of its territory and threatens to use force to control the island.
